AM & PM
- Half day tour
Services will begin around 9 am at the hotel in Lima when your
English speaking guide will pick you up for the half day tour of the
Famous ruins of Pachacámac located some 30 kilometers South of the
city. During this half day sightseeing tour we will
admire the
work of one of the most important generations of
indigenous people
who believed in the cult to the "Lord of the Land" and consequently
in the process of Andean regional integration.

By comfortable car or van we leave the big city behind
on the approximately one hour ride to the ruins of
Pachacámac. The guide
will lead you on a tour through this
enormous ancient
pre-Columbian temple, built in full with adobe mud bricks. This site was
the center of oracles and religious pilgrimages over different
periods and includes palaces, squares and a carefully restored
temple, a truncate pyramid whose different levels communicate to
each other by stairways. The ruins house an interesting collection
of artifacts like pottery and textiles featuring motifs from the
highland, which in many cases are of clear High Plateau inspiration.

According to legend, the
first man and woman on earth had nothing to eat. The man
died, but the woman was impregnated by the Sun and gave
birth to a son, the Light. Jealous of the attention given
her son, Pachacámac, the god of fire and earthquakes, a very
powerful Huaca that controlled the balance of the World,
killed the child and scattered his remains. From those
remains grew the essential foodstuffs: corn, yucca and other
fruits and vegetables.
The site near Lima is considered one of the most important
religious centers of the indigenous peoples of the central
Andes. It contains a number of pyramids and buildings begun
around 200 AD and later adapted by the Incas. |
There will be plenty of time to explore
the ruins before lunch at a typical restaurant (included). Later we
return to your hotel in Lima by mid-afternoon.
