Full day - 8 hours -
Tuesday and Saturdays only
Prepare for an 8 am pickup from the lobby of your hotel for a full
day of exploring the Andes mountain region.
We depart Quito towards
the North where we will cross the colorful valleys of Guayllabamba and
Cayambe, both of them rich in fruit and cattle production. Your
bi-lingual guide will explain about the cultures and customs of the
locals and history of the region. There will be plenty of photo
opportunities along the way.

After a
few hours of enjoying the Andean landscapes, we reach Imbabura
Province, known as the Lake District of Ecuador.
We will visit the town of
Otavalo with its famous and colorful market. The streets are lined
with hundreds of booths – selling hand-crafted silver jewelry,
watercolors, wood carvings, and clothes made with traditional back
strap looms. Two-thirds of the area’s population is indigenous, and
come in to Otavalo only on market day to sell their crafts.
Markets
are places to come and meet, shop, haggle and gossip, while locals
trade foodstuffs, animals,
utensils, pots and pans or textiles. For the visitor, markets
provide a great way to get closer to Ecuadorians while bargaining
over a sweater or a panpipe and enjoy the fruit of their industrious
hands in their multifarious crafts.

We enjoy lunch at a local hostería, before returning to Quito in the afternoon to rest after a
beautiful day out of town filled with emotions and bargain purchases.
