Prepare for a 9:00 am pick from the lobby of your hotel. The first
part of the tour takes us along the bustling
streets and squares of the largest historical centre in the
Americas. We will visit some of the cities' most important churches such as the
impressive Cathedral,
majestic La Compañía and iconic San Francisco,
guardians of a stunning multi-ethnic artistic and cultural heritage.
Later we visit the peculiar Guápulo quarter, take in the
Congress building, before heading to the Old Town where we find the
Historic and Colonial part of town. From “Panecillo” hillside we
will have a breathtaking view of the old
and modern city surrounded by the rolling Andes mountains.
In the Northern part of the city we find “La Mitad del Mundo” - Middle
of the World - complex. The monument is located at latitude 0º 0º
0º, and provides a "once in a lifetime" opportunity to straddle both
hemispheres. Here you can hop between the Northern and Southern
hemisphere in the blink of an eye. The monument forms the focal
point of a park and leisure area with gift shops and restaurants.
The site occupies an important place in the solar-based Andean Cosmo
vision, since the ancient Andean people were aware of its
significance many thousands of years ago. There will be time to
visit the Ethnographic Museum at
the complex which provides a fine overview of Ecuador’s varied cultures
and geography.
