- TIPPING * -

Tipping is a very delicate matter. Throughout the years we have been often asked what gratuity would be appropriate to leave for services, guides and crew on board vessels. The standard practice is 10% of the total bill while most hotels and restaurants include a 10% service charge, so tipping is optional. We would like to recommend the following: The quality of service should determine the extent of any gratuity. For example; if the service received has been excellent, TIP GOOD, 15 to 20 %. On board vessels we suggest USD$40 per person for the guide for one week and USD$100 per person for the crew is considered appropriate.

Gratuities to guides and crew: On board any of the vessels in the Galapagos or elsewhere, gratuities are not included. We prefer that guests reward the crew and guides based on their performance. Tipping is a delicate issue and passengers are encouraged to tip an amount they find appropriate, however, for those passengers who inquire, we suggest they follow International guidelines of US $175.00 per person on a 7-night cruise. Depending on the cruise you are on gratuities are divided among all crew members including naturalist guides or the guides are being tipped separate.

Again, the above are suggestions only as tipping and gratuities are a very personal matter.
