- We discourage travelers to rent a car in Ecuador. For those who
wish to rent a car in Ecuador may be in for a surprise when driving
in the larger cities. Traffic flow is fast and rules of the road are
not always taken in count. If you insist in renting a car you may be
in for a harsh awakening when trying to drive in the cities where
the rule of the strongest seem to be apply. Country side roads and
highways are a lot easier to drive on but many of these roads lack
adequate pavement and you may encounter delays due to constructions
and sometimes landslides or rocks on the roads in the mountains.
Large areas of the country (the Amazon and the Galapagos Islands)
can only be reached by air or boat.
