The Galapagos islands have two airports receiving flights from
mainland Ecuador and no International flights arrive directly to the
islands. The most frequently used airport is
Baltra,
located across a narrow straight from
Santa Cruz island, the other airport we find at Puerto Baquerizo
Moreno on the island of
San Cristobal.
Both airports have daily flights arriving and departing from /
to
Quito and
Guayaquil.
All flights to the Galapagos originate in Quito and make a stopover
in Guayaquil.
Airfares are the same to Baltra as to San Cristobal. It is possible
to arrive at one island and return from the other. Two buses will
meet flights arriving at Baltra. One will go to the "muelle" or port
and the other will go to the Canal de Itabaca, the narrow channel
which separates Baltra from Santa Cruz. The airport on San Cristobal
is at walking distance of the town.
Baltra and San Cristobal are 96 kilometers apart and on most days
there are local flights on light aircraft between the two of them
and as well as to Puerto Villamil on Isabela.
