Description: This soft adventure program will
provide
you with an unforgettable experience in the Three Frontiers border area.
It is here
where Colombia, Brazil and Peru meet on the mighty Amazon
River. Using the hotel in Leticia as a base-camp you will
leave on daily guided excursions allowing you to discover
one of the most beautiful places on earth. During this four
day / three night Amazon trip knowledgeable Naturalist
guides will lead you on visits to small towns and native
settlements,
you will travel by small boat on the Amazon River and small tributaries
while exploring and learning about the
incredible flora and fauna of the Amazon rainforest and the
cultures and customs of its people.

Day 1
- LETICIA - AMAZON RAINFOREST
/ Transfer and Sunset tour
AM or PM - Our
services will begin with your arrival at the airport of
Leticia from
Bogota (arrivals at the Tabatinga -
Brazil - airport are also possible at an
extra cost). Your local guide will be waiting for you
outside the customs area of the airport to provide you with the
transfer to
hotel Anaconda, located close to the Amazon River. Enjoy a
welcome drink at the hotel and the afternoon at leisure.

Explore the friendly city of Leticia and the
neighboring town of Tabatinga, just across the border in Brazil.
Late in the afternoon the guide will take you down to the waterfront
from where we board a small motorboat for a sunset tour of nearby
Yahuarcacas Lake. Enjoy your first contact with the Amazon River and
Rainforest while the sun sets on the horizon.

Day 2
- LETICIA - AMAZON
RAINFOREST / Full day tour of Benjamin Constant
AM & PM -
After breakfast we depart for a full day tour into Brazil and the
town of Benjamin Constant. By small boat we sail down the Amazon
River into Brazil past the city of Tabatinga and farms. Enjoy the
views of the mighty river and the jungle on the shores. Benjamin
Constant is located some 22 kilometers (15 miles) from Leticia on a
major tributary of the Amazon River. As part of the tour we will
visit one of the sawmills along the river. The lumber industry
provides a great number of jobs in the area and is now a major
player in the economic progress of the region. Lumber products and
plywood is being exported from here to the US and other
International markets while controlled cutting and reforestation is
one of the goals of the Brazilian government in maintaining and
restoration of the Amazon basin. The guide will show us around town
followed by a typical Brazilian lunch at a local restaurant. There
will be plenty of time to explore the town before returning to
Leticia by mid afternoon.
PM -
When darkness sets in we leave by boat in search of the Amazon
caiman on one of the lakes. The guide will try to spot the caiman's
eyes with his flashlight while the boat will try to approach as
close as possible. Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 3
- LETICIA - AMAZON
RAINFOREST / Native communities and Monkey island
AM & PM -
Breakfast at the hotel. Today we will head upriver on the Amazon
River for a full day of River and Jungle exploration. By small boat
we sail from Leticia some 50 kilometers (31 miles) to a small
tributary to visit the native communities of Yaguas and Ticunas. The
people in these communities still live the culture and practice the
customs the way their ancestors used to for centuries. It is
fascinating to observe from up close a way of living we only get to
see through our TV's. You will an opportunity to purchase
handicrafts from the locals. From here we board the boat to Monkey
island, located in the middle of the river. We will take a hike to
explore the island forest under the observing eyes of hundreds of
squirrel monkeys who live on this island. Box lunch will be taken
before we continue the boat trip. While we stay close to the shores
we may see birds and local wildlife. We make a brief stop at the
mouth of one of the tributaries where we have a good chance to see
pink and grey river dolphins feed. Time permitting we will try our
luck at some piranha fishing "Amazon style" with just a line, a hook
and some meat. We return to the hotel later in the afternoon.

Day 4 -
LETICIA - AMAZON RAINFOREST / City tour and transfer
AM & PM -
In the morning hours we will take a city tour of Leticia and cross
the border to Tabatinga in Brazil. Later you will be transferred to
the airport for your flight out.
