Description: The Pantanal is a sure
bet for wildlife observation and bird-watching. It is the
best area in South America to observe a great variety of
species of Flora and fauna in a matter of hours without much
of an effort. In contrast with the Amazon, where the dense
rainforest limits the view, the Pantanal is a vast open area
of wetlands where wildlife observation is easy. The Pantanal
Wetland Discovery program offers you the opportunity to get
the most out of this extraordinary region while staying at a
great Lodge, The Araras Eco Lodge, located only a few hours
from Cuiaba on the Transpantaneira road.
A day on the program begins with a healthy breakfast at the
Lodge followed by a morning excursion. Bi-lingual Naturalist
guides will lead you into areas where wildlife and birds can
be found during most of the year. They will explain and
teach you about the hundreds of different species of Flora
and Fauna that can be seen here. Lunch will either be taken
at the Lodge or a box lunch will be taken along. On day long
explorations there are a variety of excursions by car, on
foot, on horseback and canoe. In the evenings the guides
will update you on the next days' activities and maybe an
evening excursion to see nocturnal wildlife. |
Day 1
- Any day Cuiaba -
Pantanal Wetlands - Araras EcoLodge / Transfer in
AM - Arrive at Cuiaba / Várzea Grande airport in the morning
hours or noon. Our guide will be waiting outside the luggage claim
area to assist with luggage handling and to provide the transfer to
the lodge (NOTE: Passengers already in Cuiaba will be picked
up at their hotel to join on the transfer).

 PM - Travel by
air conditioned van to the Pantanal
lowlands. En route our guide will give a short update on the route
to follow to the lodge. As soon as we leave the main track and we
enter the Transpantaneira Road we will be able to observe and
appreciate the local flora and fauna of the Pantanal. A welcome
drink will be served upon arrival at
Araras Eco Lodge. After checking into our rooms the Lodge
director will give a short briefing on the facilities and the
program to follow over the next few days. Late in the afternoon we
will leave for a sunset observation trek through the surrounding
area. Be amazed by the colors of sun night setting over the
wetlands.
EVE - Return to the lodge for refreshments
just before dinner, served in the dining room. After enjoying our
meal we will leave the lodge by jeep for a night tour to observe the
nocturnal environment. Overnight at the lodge.

Day 2
Araras EcoLodge - Pantanal
Wetlands / Sightseeing
AM - Coffee and tea will be ready to serve when we wake up.
Enjoy the quietness of the surroundings only interrupted by the
sounds of local birds and the animals of the Pantanal. The kitchen
crew will prepare a healthy breakfast before our guide will take us
on a full day tour by jeep into the wetlands. Frequent stops will be
made to observe the many species of flora and fauna that can be seen
from the road. Keep cameras handy as surprises may pop up anywhere
along the way. You will be amazed by the variety of animals and
birds of this particular ecosystem. The guide will make a stop for a
trek through the forest and explain about the area.
PM - Box lunch will be served at a setting in a local farm.
After a well deserved meal and a few minutes of rest we choose our
horse and explore the area on horseback. There is no better way to
experience the sights and sounds of the wetlands than by horse. With
the help of our knowledgeable guide we will get to learn and
understand the local environment and appreciate these moments. We
return to the lodge late in the afternoon. Relax and enjoy the
facilities of the lodge.
EVE - Dinner at the lodge. The evening can be enjoyed at
leisure. You may want to get together with fellow travelers and
guides or just retire to your room and settle down for the night.

Day 3 Araras
EcoLodge - Pantanal Wetlands / Sightseeing
AM - You may want to get up early and appreciate sunrise in the
Pantanal. Some of your best pictures will be taken at this time when
darkness makes place for daylight and birds, mammals and reptiles
get ready for another day. Plenty of fruit is available at all times
in the dining room where breakfast will be served. We will board the
truck or jeep for an exploration on the Pantanal raised dirt roads
including the Transpantaneira Park Road. Whenever needed, our guide
will stop the truck to describe the features of the area or the
animals in sight.
PM - Picnic lunch will be served en route. Later, our guide
will stop at a lake from where we continue our trip by canoe. Here
we will be able to spot aquatic wildlife, birds and flora while
paddling along. In the lake we will be able to catch the legendary
Piranha and the guide may arrange for some fishing before returning
to the lodge.
EVE - Enjoy dinner with new found friends and spend the last
evening at the lodge at leisure.

Day 4
Araras EcoLodge - Pantanal Wetlands -
Cuiaba / Transfer out
AM - After breakfast we leave the lodge for a photo safari
along the Transpantaneira Park Road and return to Cuiaba. The guide
will either drop us at the airport or at a local hotel.
