Juma lodge is located 100 km (62 miles) to the
south of Manaus and is accessible only by air
(hydroplane) or by land (air conditioned van)
and by speedboat in three hours.
Juma
Lodge was designed to be totally integrated in
the jungle. Construction and operation of the
lodge comply with and respect the limitations of
the environment, which is the very reason for
your visit to the lodge. The lodge was built on
solid ground and is supported on stilts. This
type of construction is necessary due to the
flood season when the river level rises up to 40
feet. All materials used in the construction of
the lodge are plentiful in the region and were
judiciously extracted from the forest. Timber
from trees such as the angelim, itauba,
aquarquera, tintarana and jacareuba were used on
walls, passage ways and stilts while the leaves
of the babacu tree are used as roof covering,
just like the native houses.
Juma lodge offers excellent facilities for a
lodge located in the jungle and has eleven
comfortable rooms with verandah, hammock, fan,
mini-bar (optional) and private bath. Three new
bungalows are under construction and will have
an unobstructed beautiful view of Juma Lake. The
new bungalows sit among the treetops at 15
meters above the lake and are located in an
exclusive area of the lodge with total privacy.
Programs at the lodge include tours in the
narrow waterways known as igarapés (in the dry
season) or the Amazon flooded lands known as
igapós (in the flood season) for observation of
wildlife. Guests can take part of many
activities around Juma Lodge, all of them
closely related to nature. Swimming and rowing
for example are just two of the excellent
options. Motorized canoe tours can be taken with
knowledgeable guides. Hike through the dense
forest on places seldom visited by man. The
guides at the lodge are experts in the area and
will explain about the flora and fauna during
each tour. In the evening board a motorized
canoe in search of the alligators in the Amazon.
From the lodge you can fish for peacock bass,
tambaqui and the famous piranha. In other words,
there is just too much to do in the jungle to
mention.
